In an interview from the Italian training camp of the squad, Mirel Radoi thinks that the Dutch side Heereenven must be treated with the same respect as Valencia CF a year ago. Mirel also spoke about the training sessions that the new coach Olaroiu came up with and also about the new staff - players relationship which is being established by the day. Mirel was voted the best Steaua player for the autumn season in an online poll by our fans.
SteauaFC.com: Mirel, how do you feel alter about a week of training flter the winter break and after Protasov has gone and Olaroiu is the new man in charge at Steaua? Mirel Radoi: It is not so tough I would say, because the new coach hended in to everybody a schedule with a light training regime for the actual break, so it was not like a sudden change for us. Now we realizad that this was meant to make things smoother once we are back in training and much more effort is required from us. With protasov, the training sessions were easier for us, while now with Olaroiu, there is more focus on physical training than before.
SteauaFC.com: Any new things from the bag of Olaroiu now? Mirel Radoi: It is a new thing for us now that we are also getting more focus on tactos during the coaching sessions. Under the reign of Oleg, we hardly had two or three Duch tactical sessions, while with Oli we did that twice in six days.
SteauaFC.com: What do you think of Steaua with so much staff for the squad now?
Mirel Radoi: Any big team or club which has great goals has got a lot of staff around the squad and each staff member is in charge of a special task all the time. Our staff team is way larger now and this makes us, as players, feel more comfortable and important in the meantime. You really feel that more attention is paid to you as an individual placer. It is the head coach who is in charge of everything, then it is someone else responsable for your health, your diet, for the accommodation that you get, for the relationship with the press, for the gear that you wear and so on. Everybody knows inside out what their job is and what they need to do. Only then when there is a perfect synergy between the players and the staff member, you can only focus on training and playing at your best. It is only then when you shall get good results, I would say. This makes also our life easier as players for the club.
SteauaFC.com: Are you happy with how the team performed in the first training game? Mirel Radoi: I am happy it was a good game and the result came as a bonus only. It was important that the coach would see us moving around the field and he concluded a few things about that in the end. He sorted the players out for two halves so that everybody got a run, but he also wanted that the two sides to be just as good and to perform consistently. He put on together players who were both starters and reserves last autumn and this was really good. The result mattered less, it is good that we got a win though, we should also be aware that the same team, Carrarese, recently lost only by the same score 2-0 against the Serie A side Livorno.
SteauaFC.com: Do you think Steaua will dispose of Heerenveen in the UEFA Cup? Mirel Radoi: I am fully convinced we shall do, but only if we shall really focus on the aggregate encounter. If we think it is going to be easy for us and the Dutch will play just as they did against Dinamo, we shall keep watching them on the telly after the aggregate. We must focus for these two games exactly as we did last year against Valencia. Only if we achieve that, we shall kick them out of the competition. I do hope our great fans will be on our side again, just as they always did. A capacity crowd for the second leg in Bucharest might be the decisive factor for us in this aggregate.
